About me

That’s me hanging off the edge of the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada. There’s no analogy for how this relates to design. It’s
just the coolest picture I have.

I am an experienced user-centred designer specialising in both content and service design. For over 10 years, I have been creating essential user experiences in the public and private sectors.

My recent work has taken place primarily in the public sector. Here, I have worked for executive and non-executive agencies within both the UK and Scottish Governments. These agencies include:

  • Ministry of Justice

  • Ofgem

  • Ministry of Defence

  • Social Security Scotland

My expertise is in designing accessible, user-led services to help people meet their needs and achieve their goals. I design services and content for different platforms and create solutions that meet both user needs and business requirements.

My skill set is wide-ranging and includes:

  • creating user-centred, end-to-end services for online and offline platforms

  • designing easy-to-read content in plain English that is understandable for all user groups

  • identifying, establishing and designing user flows, service maps and blueprints

  • developing user experiences enabling people to successfully use products and services

  • expertise in understanding complex services

  • creating prototype products to test with users

As a designer, I want to understand the intricacies of how things work, take this knowledge and turn it into a user-led solution. While also demonstrating the pragmatism that ensures the solutions meet the business requirements. These aspects are of equal importance to me in designing end-to-end services.

Users should be the focus of everything we design, regardless of what the solution is. Only then can we truly say we’re creating user-led solutions that benefit people using them.

Approach to design

A user-centred designer balances both user needs and business requirements in equal measure. And in turn, creates design solutions that ultimately satisfy both user groups. This is the challenge that drives me as a designer. From this comes the motivation to deliver intuitive, usable and understandable design work driven by viability and practicability.

Closer to home, and as a content designer, I say confidently that content matters. The world is built on the written word. It's how we communicate with each other. And this is the fundamental bedrock of everything we do daily. It's how we continue to evolve. It should be simple, easy to read and understandable to everyone. Couple content with design and you have the means for how we interact with each other. These should be solutions that allow us to continue growing together.
